Research project Title: How does the illusion of choice in narrative-driven games influence player agency and emotional investment?

About the study: This project explores how players respond to illusionary choices in a short text-based game. The study is part of an assessed BSc Games Production dissertation at Confetti (Nottingham Trent University).

What you will do

  • Play a short text-based game (5 - 10 minutes long)
  • Make choices throughout different scenarios

What data is collected

  • The choices you select during the game
  • Whether you replay the game
  • No personal information is collected
  • All data is anonymous and stored securely

Voluntary participation: Taking part is completely voluntary, you can stop at any time without penalty.

Risks and Benefits: There are no expected risks. You many experience mild frustration if you replay the game multiple games. There are no direct personal benefits but, your participation helps research into narrative game design and player agency. 

Confidentiality: All data is anonymous and stored securely. No personal information is collected. Data is handled in line with NTU GDPR policies.

Use of results: Your anonymous choices will be used in the dissertation analysis.

Supervision:  This project is supervised by Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies (Nottingham Trent University).
